Why Buckets

Recognizing & incentivizing contributors is the Achilles' heel of DAO scaling. Buckets introduce a solution that balances between recognizing the singular (non-fungible) nature of each contribution while also honoring the contributors’ need for liquidity. With Buckets, each contribution can be marked with an ERC1155 (NFT) on a scale specified by the DAO (e-g, small, medium or large), denoting the size of the work underway without overly financializing & numerically weighing every interaction that takes place.

Buckets grow with you.

For lack of a better store of value, many projects prematurely launch tokens-- irreversibly locking themselves into membership structures, monetary policies and regulatory hurdles that cause issues downstream. Buckets offer a store of value for projects while they are still nascent, enabling easy & optional transition into treasury governance & distribution when the time comes.

Buckets are open legos.

Emergence of L2 interoperability, breakthroughs in sybil resistance and oracle technology all point to an imminent & bright future for decentralized work. As vectors of technical progress and regulatory clarity converge, open solutions that are simple & easy to build upon will thrive and undergrid this future. In this vein, Buckets are designed so that an entire ecosystem of tools and plugins for dao governance, contributor recognition & upside can grow around them.

Buckets recognize the intrinsic motivation for work.

Anthropologists of the gift have known this for a while, and recently empirical economists have also confirmed that overly-financialized rewards can crowd out inner motivation for work, leading to longterm decline in contribution quality. Open source contributors & community builders in particular have complex motivations for doing their work. Although the promise of DAOs is to guarantee upside & recognition for contributors to the commons, existing solutions end up financializing every aspect of the work, threatening the very thing they seek to sustain.
